Imagine emerald green islands rising out of a deep blue sea, ringed by coral reefs, with majestic volcanoes towering over a domain of tropical forests which harbour a sprinkling of endemic and near-endemic birds found nowhere else on earth, to sandy beaches lapped by coral blue waters and fringed by waving coconut palms. This picture of paradise is not a fantasy, but a reality; the islands of the Seychelles, Mauritius and Réunion, scattered like pearls across the ocean, are truly 'an earthly paradise'. This unique tour, provides comprehensive coverage of the islands' endemic birds, which are amongst the rarest birds in the world. The Seychelles is home to 12 species of endemic birds, Mauritius harbours 8 endemic birds, Reunion 9 and Rodrigues 2. We will have ample time to look for all 31 of the endemic land birds of the islands, as well as enjoying a large and varied selection of interesting seabirds. The tour will visit no fewer than 6 delightful isles, each one with its own character, and each one, completely different to the others. There will even be time to swim, snorkel or just soak up the atmosphere of these pearls of the Indian Ocean. We begin our tour in the remote island of Rodrigues, rarely visited by bird watchers, despite having two endemic land birds, the Rodrigues Warbler and the Rodrigues Fody. Next, we visit Mauritius, where we will explore the remaining areas of tropical forest in search of Mauritius Kestrel, Pink Pigeon, Mauritius Parakeet, Mauritius Cuckoo-shrike, Mauritius Bulbul, Mascarene Paradise-Flycatcher, Mauritius Grey White-eye, Mauritius Olive White-eye and Mauritius Fody. We will also make a boat trip to uninhabited Round Island, where Red-tailed and White-tailed Tropicbirds nest and Trinidade Petrels swoop overhead in dashing aerial displays. We then explore the Seychelles, a group of ancient granitic islands; we will visit the islands of Mahé, Praslin, La Digue and Aride, each with their own special birds, including such delights as Seychelles Scops-Owl, Seychelles Magpie-Robin, Seychelles Paradise-Flycatcher, Seychelles Warbler and Seychelles White-eye, while additional Seychelles or Mascarene endemics include Seychelles Kestrel, Seychelles Blue Pigeon, Seychelles Black Parrot, Seychelles Swiftlet, Seychelles Bulbul, Seychelles Sunbird and Seychelles Fody. We shall also visit teeming seabird colonies, where we will watch Wedge-tailed Shearwaters gliding over crystal clear waters, marvel at the piratical frigatebirds and watch thousands of Sooty Terns and Brown and Lesser Noddies, as well as the incredibly beautiful White Tern. Our final destination, is the remote island of Réunion, where we will explore the forest-clad slopes of dramatic volcanoes, which rise steeply from the sea, as we search for Barau's and Réunion Petrels, which breed among the cloud-wreathed peaks, and endemic land birds including Réunion Harrier, Réunion Cuckoo-shrike, Réunion Bulbul, Réunion Stonechat and Réunion Grey White-eye.
